I guess it was always one of those projects that pointed the way but never
really arrived at the destination. All three of us went through
a long period of non-productivity after the band folded, I even
went into therapy. We all had such high expectations for "Big Bubbles
no Troubles" and the LP "Homelands" but all it seemed to do was create
notoriety. After being in Kajagoogoo that was no mean feat
and I was always grateful for the experience of carrying on where most
musicians would have given up.
The real problem was that the single "Big Bubbles No Troubles" was written
at the very end of the L.P. session. In fact, it had been put together
as a 'B' side and sounded nothing like the rest of the record. But,
it was the strongest thing we'd written. So, when it was released
every one said "wow, this is great but the L.P. doesn't sound anything
like the single." The chances are if Big Bubbles had never been released,
the band probably would have come and gone without much a do. The
single and video got awards and accolades from all over Europe and we had
a good time touring with Roachford, Bo Diddly, Ronnie Wood and T Pau.
Shortly after, Simon Ellis and myself did some TV work with "Seal"
and he said he'd been very influenced by the band. I was really
buzzed by that and felt happy our work had added to the inspiration
of other artists of that caliber.
Simon Ellis has now found a very successful career as a producer/writer
with various high profile pop acts. Go baby.
